Following a high-profile campaign started by the footballer Marcus Rashford, school meal vouchers were a lifeline for low-income and single-parent families over lockdown and throughout the summer holidays.
With many schools closing for extended periods again over the Halloween break, redundancies on the rise and many industries not able to trade at all, the government's very last-minute and questionable decision to stop these meal vouchers for children over half-term will be a blow for the lowest-income families in our community.
So it's been heart-warming to read about hundreds of our amazing local businesses, cafes and restaurants across the UK that have stepped up and are offering to help out where they can (most of whom are themselves still facing financial difficulties and uncertain futures).
We've witnessed restaurants and cafes offering not just kids, but other elderly, homeless and most vulnerable sections of our community free meals - throughout half-term and beyond!
To try and do our bit to help, we've created a map of all those organisations who are offering some form of help and details on how to access that help. Hopefully it'll make it that little bit easier for families to access help closest to them.
We stand with Marcus Rashford and agree that no child should go hungry!
Please share far and wide, and if you know of an organisation you'd like added to the map, DM on our social pages or send us an email. This is a work in progress and we will be updating regularly.
